What is a Vaporizer?
A Vaporizer is an aromatherapy device used to extract the active ingredients in herbs, oils and/or waxes without combusting them (creating smoke) therefore avoiding the toxic and carcinogenic by-products of smoke.
How does a Vaporizer work?
Vaporizers work by gently heating plant materials to an optimal temperature (usually between 350 and 375 degrees fahrenheit) which releases the plants active compounds which are then inhaled, used for aromatherapy or used to impart flavor in cooking. All Vaporizers consist of a heating element, a power source (battery or plug) and a vapor extraction device such as a whip (basically a hose), a mouthpiece or a balloon bag (a large bag that fills with vapor).
Is vaporizing that much healthier than smoking?
Yes. Vapor contains virtually zero particulate matter or carcinogens because the plant, herb, or oil being used has not been heated to the point of combustion. Rather, the plant material is precisely heated to between 350 - 375 degrees Fahrenheit at which point the active compounds are released in the form of vapor that aids in healthy meditation, relaxation and other forms of aromatherapy.
Does a vaporizer smell when using it?
You will probably notice an aroma when you exhale the vapor but it will be minimal and a major upgrade versus the smell of smoke.
What's the difference between conduction and convection heating?
Conduction is heat flowing from a body at a higher temperature to a body at a lower temperature wherein your herb is placed directly on a heating source such as a ceramic element. This is a tried and true method of vaporizing used by most of the Vaporizers on the market but some connoisseurs would argue that it creates a slightly bitter or burnt flavor because the plant is in direct contact with the heating source. The main advantage to conduction heat vaporizers is the reduced cost.
Convection on the other hand uses a fan to draw hot air over your herbs so that no part of the plant is in contact with a heating element allowing hot air to envelop the herb. Heavy users will find that that a convection heating Vaporizer will require significantly less herb over time. Convection technology is used in all of the top Vaporizers such as the Volcano Classic and Digital, Arizer Extreme Q, AroMed and Vaporfection ViVape.
How do I clean a vaporizer?
Your Vaporizer will need regular cleaning to operate at optimal capacity and provide the best vapor consistency, flavor and aroma. We've tested all the cleaning supplies sold on this site and can highly recommend them. You can also clean your vaporizer with rubbing alcohol (we recommend 90% isopropyl), q tips and paper towels. Most importantly it's vital to change your screens on a regular basis. As the screen becomes clogged with leftover bits of herbs the air flow of your vaporizer becomes restricted and the amount and quality of vapor is significantly reduced. 8 times out of 10 when users complain about poor results it's because they are using a clogged screen. For complete instructions on cleaning your vaporizer refer to the owner's manual.
Are Vaporizers legal?
Vaporizers are legal aromatherapy devices. All of the Vaporizers, Parts and Accessories we sell are intended to be used with legal herbs and oils for aromatherapy purposes only. Please see our disclaimer page for more info.
How do I select the right Vaporizer?
Choosing the perfect Vaporizer depends on how you want to use your Vape. Will you be using it mostly at home or do you want the convenience of a portable vaporizer? How much product will you be using? A multiple times per day user will likely be happier with a convection heat (forced air) unit because it uses significantly less herbs over time - saving time and money in the long run. Will there be multiple people using the same vape? If so you will want a unit with multiple whip attachments or a balloon bag that can be passed around the room.
